Friday's Headlines - Diamond Comics Distributors' PULLBOX Program

Diamond Comics Distributors' PULLBOX program has been delayed in order to add new features not originally planned, a company spokesperson has told the PULLBOX is a web-based application where comic shop customers can place orders and set up subscriptions with their local retailer through Diamond.

Diamond previewed the PULLBOX application to retailers at April's Diamond Retailer Summit, and had announced plans at that time for beta-testing in May with a wide release in mid-July. The company now projects beta-testing to begin in September, with a "phased rollout" to the public beginning in October.

"Just like any piece of software as a service in development, as you go through the process you come across new feature sets you want to add. We encountered a lot of that with our development of Pullbox, as there were additional things we wanted to give retailers and customers," Diamond's Director of Marketing Dan Manser told "We are on target to start beta-testing with retailers in September. We think our initial beta-testers will be pleased with the service, and we currently plan for a phased rollout for the following months of the year."

The service is planned as a free resource for customers, with a monthly service charge to participating retailers. In the interim, Diamond has added a new Search option to its site that will dovetail into the PULLBOX service.

“The New Item Search is a key first step towards our upcoming PREVIEWSworld PULLBOX service,” said Andy Mueller, Diamond's Consumer Marketing Manager. “In the future, you will be able to search for what you’re looking for, and then place an order with your local comic shop right from the search results page.”
