Monday's Headlines | Weekend Box Office

Appropriately, Avengers: Endgame has finally been unseated from the number 1 spot by someone who never needs to be reminded to go for the head. John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum exceeded all expectations with a franchise-best $57 million debut, nearly doubling the $30.4 million opening weekend of John Wick: Chapter Two. Worldwide, Parabellum took in an estimated $92 million.

The film sees Keanu Reeves return as the titular super-assassin, now on the run from every contract killer in New York thanks to a $14 million bounty on his head. Also starring Laurence Fishburne, Halle Berry, Ian McShane, and Asia Kate Dillon, Parabellum received a pretty stellar A- CinemaScore from audiences.

Even while it drops to the number 2 spot, Endgame is still out here casually climbing all-time lists. The Russo Brothers‘ Marvel franchise-capper earned another $29.4 million to bring its domestic total to $771 million, officially second-best of all time behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘ $936 million. Worldwide, Endgame now sits at a truly mind-blowing $2.56 billion after four weeks, right behind Avatar‘s $2.78 billion.

Meanwhile, Pokemon Detective Pikachu‘s box office roll-out has slowed a bit, falling 54.4% to third place in its second weekend with $24 million. As expected, the video game adaptation is electrifying worldwide though, now sitting at $206.4 million on a $150 million budget.

Newcomer A Dog’s Journey arrived below expectations with an $8 million debut, significantly lower than its predecessor A Dog’s Purpose‘s $18 million opening. Director Ry Russo-Young‘s YA adaption The Sun Is Also A Star also appears to be a dud, arriving in eighth place with $2.6 millon on 2,073 screens.

Check out the weekend’s top 10 estimates below, and be back here next week to see if Disney’s live-action Aladdin can ride that magic carpet up the box office charts.
