Thursday's Headlines | Star Wars News

Disney Chairman Bob Iger has confirmed that the first of the recently announced post-"Skywalker Saga" Star Wars films will be created by Game of Thrones showrunners Dan Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

“We did a deal with David Benioff and D.B Weiss, who are famous for Game of Thrones, and the next movie that we release will be theirs,” Iger said at a media summit (via i09). “And we’re not saying anything more about that.”

Benioff and Weiss were reported to be developing their own Star Wars spin-offs in February, 2018. The only detail known about the story is that it will be separate from the "Skywalker Saga," which kicked off in 1977's Star Wars: A New Hope and which will conclude with December 20's The Rise of Skywalker.

It's unclear whether the duo will be writing, directing, or producing the film, or any combination of those, or if this film is the first of a series. The film is set for a December 16, 2022 theatrical release.
