Friday's Headlines | MARVEL COMICS Offering Deep Discounts On Comics

Marvel Entertainment President Dan Buckley has sent a message of re-assurance - and price breaks - to Direct Market comic book retailers as the effects of the coronavirus pandemic permeate all corners of life. In a message sent out as part of its weekly e-mail to retailers, Buckley announced "extensive deep discounts" on Marvel titles scheduled for March 18 to April 8, as well as other supplemental measures.

Here is Buckley's statement, reprinted with permission:
As we all encounter new and uncertain challenges in response to COVID-19 and take extraordinary measures to prioritize the safety and wellbeing of everyone in the industry and beyond, our thoughts are with the entire industry and community we all support.
We have spoken with many retailers about the economic impact to their stores from this situation, and we are here to help. For all of our partners in the retailer community facing unprecedented economic impacts to their stores, Marvel is implementing the following sales measures to assist and support retailers around the country:
For Marvel titles scheduled to go on sale between March 18 and April 8, Marvel is offering extensive deep discounts (adjusted on top of the existing discounts retailers have in place) to help alleviate cash flow pressures and give retailers the flexibility to sell their product in response to customer demand as needed.
This move will increase total discounts for retailers upfront and preserve the cash they have immediately available. These discounts will also remove the burden on comic shops to dedicate resources and staff to process returns at a future date.
Marvel and Diamond will also be preserving retailers’ current regular Marvel discounts, regardless of any decreases to order levels. By maintaining all current regular discounts, we hope to give retailers the confidence they need to reduce and adjust their orders and steadily accommodate their ongoing pull and hold list customers.
These measures will be effective immediately.
Marvel will also continue to amplify and create awareness about retailer efforts to provide services including holding or creating pull lists, curbside pick-ups, special deliveries or other shipping options, and more to accommodate the communities they are in.
To equip local comic stores and businesses, Marvel titles will continue to be made available on a weekly schedule as normal.
We are actively monitoring the situation every day, and we will continue to listen to retailer feedback and share regular updates with them in the coming days and weeks.
